Benign prostatic hyperplasia (prostate adenoma; prostate hyperplasia; BPH) is the most common urological disease in men worldwide. It appears after the age of 30, but more than half of men over 40, and over 90% of men aged 80, suffer from it. Several factors play a role in the development of the disease: impaired local pelvic circulation certainly contributes; declining cellular energy; hormonal imbalance; the damaging effects of free radicals are attributed – even urban air pollution; there also appears to be a correlation with deficiencies of certain trace elements (zinc, selenium) and vitamins (C, E). Interestingly, while it is not common among our closest biological relatives, great apes, it is a frequent change in dogs, which share our lifestyle but are biologically much more distant. The resulting symptoms significantly reduce the quality of life of patients. According to patient reports, they experience their quality of life as similarly poor to cancer patients. This forces men of active age into social withdrawal. Irritative symptoms are the result of bladder irritation: uncomfortable or painful urination, urgent and pressing need to urinate, increasingly frequent urination, which also makes nighttime rest impossible. Obstructive symptoms are the consequences of obstructed urine flow: weak urine stream, difficult to control urination, incomplete bladder emptying, post-void dribbling, etc. In the long term, it can even lead to fatal kidney failure. It is also one of the most common causes of male sexual dysfunction.
Humic Acid is one of the great wonders of the 21st century. Humic acids stimulate the body's detoxification processes, binding toxic substances and heavy metals that enter our body in our daily lives. This can have a beneficial effect on our intestines and immune system. Consuming humic acid can reduce uncomfortable digestive symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation, bloating, or cramps and pain associated with food sensitivities. Free radicals are formed daily in our body, placing a huge burden on our immune system. Unfortunately, as a result of modern lifestyle, more free radicals are produced than necessary, which leads to chronic diseases, inflammation, and accelerated aging processes. One of the best ways to combat free radicals is to consume more antioxidants, which bind these cell-damaging molecules. Humic acid also prevents our body from becoming acidic, helping the body maintain its optimal pH value.
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens / Sabal serrulata) and nettle root (Urtica dioica) extract (Urticae radix) have synergistic, related effects: they contain plant enzymes that inhibit cell proliferation and anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, their plant sterol content mitigates the effects of age-related hormonal changes that favor prostate proliferation. They have been proven to slow down the deterioration of the condition and alleviate the symptoms. A great advantage of saw palmetto active ingredients over synthetic drugs is that they do not mask the laboratory results of prostate cancer – they do not hinder its detection. Both herbs are recognized in this indication in the official VIII. Hungarian Pharmacopoeia. The additional plant sterols (beta-sitosterol, phytosterol, campesterol, stigmasterol) complement the natural sterol content of saw palmetto and nettle. The reason for consuming phyto (plant) sterols is that the human body cannot produce them, and they are only absorbed to a small extent from consumed food. Studies prove that saw palmetto oil enriched with plant sterols is more effective than saw palmetto oil alone. They mitigate the unfavorable effects of age-related male hormone imbalance, which is a significant factor in the development of the disease. Sterol-containing herbs have been used in Europe for a long time against prostate diseases. In Japan, however, these have no tradition. Therefore, a Japanese study is particularly valuable, which proves the beneficial effect of plant sterols, contrary to their traditions, both in alleviating subjective symptoms and in slowing down the pathological process.
African plum bark (Pygeum africanum) has demonstrated beneficial effects in several human studies in alleviating BPH urinary disorders, with very good tolerability.
Gingerol is the main active ingredient of ginger (Zingiber officinale), with diverse physiological effects. It improves microcirculation, has antioxidant effects, is anti-inflammatory, and inhibits the appearance of tumor cells in the prostate. Recent studies have yielded very promising results in both benign and malignant prostate diseases, although its mechanism of action is not fully understood.
Ginseng (Panax ginseng) root extract is a traditional stimulating, masculinity-enhancing herb in Far Eastern folk medicine. Scientific research has shown that through down-regulation of alpha-adrenergic receptors in the prostate gland and smooth muscle cells of the urinary tract, it reduces the proliferation and overgrowth of prostate cells. This has a beneficial effect on symptoms, as well as slowing down the pathological process. Although not all details are clear, theoretical research and practical measurements suggest that free radicals play a role in the development of BPH, and even in the appearance of prostate cancer. Numerous studies have shown that BPH patients have lower than average antioxidant protection, which further decreases with the onset of prostate cancer. The theoretical observation seems to be confirmed by the fact that antioxidant supplementation has a beneficial effect on both benign and malignant prostate diseases.
Antioxidant effects are suspected – or partly proven – behind the
prostate-protective effects of Vitamin C, quercetin, lycopene, and selenium.
Zinc is an essential component of nearly 300 enzymes, and one of its primary functions in the body is to maintain cell membrane integrity. In its absence, the membrane weakens, and the cell becomes more vulnerable and sensitive to environmental damage. In ProstaVirtus+, zinc is in a biologically active, organic form, so its absorption rate may be better compared to various inorganic zinc forms. As a result, hormone-driven healthy sperm production can be enhanced. Zinc is also necessary for testosterone production.
Sorrel extract can help men achieve optimal testosterone levels.
It can influence the proper functioning of male sex hormones and sexual health.
Optimal testosterone levels are essential for athletic performance, maintaining vitality, and sexual health.
Among the known active ingredients of Horsetail are silicic acid (8-10% silicon content), flavonoids, polyenoic acids, dicarboxylic acids, manganese salts, alkaloids (palustrine, nicotine), potassium chloride, saponins (equisetonin), organic acids (aconitic acid, oxalic acid, malic acid), and caffeic acid ester.
The silicon in horsetail is also an essential trace element for the human body, indispensable in the building of connective tissues.
Since our body does not produce it, daily silicon supplementation is essential.
Horsetail extract can stimulate lymphatic circulation and may have diaphoretic, diuretic, and kidney-cleansing effects.
According to research, Ginkgo biloba extract is also effective in treating impotence. Studies have shown that the flavonoids of ginkgo are good vasodilators. It has an extremely beneficial effect on circulation, relaxing and widening narrowed blood vessel walls, thereby allowing blood to flow freely, which plays a crucial role in creating and maintaining an erection.
Maca root extract stimulates testosterone production, and can improve sexual health, libido, and fertility. According to some studies, the quality and motility of sperm may also improve after using maca root extract.
